when the day is long and the night, the night is yours alone,
when you're sure you've had enough of this life, well hang on.
don't let yourself go, everybody cries and everybody hurts sometimes.
sometimes everything is wrong. now it's time to sing along.
when your day is night alone, (hold on, hold on)
if you feel like letting go, (hold on)
when you think you've had too much of this life, well hang on.
everybody hurts. take comfort in your friends.
everybody hurts. don't throw your hand. oh, no. don't throw your hand.
if you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone
if you're on your own in this life, the days and nights are long,
when you think you've had too much of this life to hang on.
well, everybody hurts sometimes,
everybody cries. and everybody hurts sometimes.
and everybody hurts sometimes. so, hold on, hold on.
hold on, hold on. hold on, hold on. hold on, hold on.
(everybody hurts. you are not alone.)

could it be? normalcy? well, after being CPUless for a few weeks and having web designers' block for a few days, i think i've reached a stable point computer-wise. so let's all welcome dave clark back from the abyss of quiet solitude (or whatever floats one's respective boat). to be quick, my activities during the last few days have included- studying, sleeping, marching at the UGA/USC football game, joining an urban planning group, joining the campus green party group, becoming annoyed at some of their continuing love for a hypocritical hack with political intentions based in personal love rather than any sort of liberal agenda (let's just say his name rhymes with gralph grader), and other sorts of nifty activities. and now, currently, i'm off to go eat at one of the dining halls.
ultimately, many thanks for your time in putting up with my expected ramblings. enjoy, friends, more will come in the near future!

yeah, i've been quiet. my computer went hiroshima on me a week ago, so i haven't been on the 'net much other than swiping a few minutes on my roomate's CPU. i'll be back soon.

a quick warning to the jackass who tried to get money from me in the parking lot in front of my dorm last night:
i'm a college student. i'm poor. shame on you and your obvious chemical habits (yeah. you needed gas. right.) for making me feel sorry for you, and thus, almost wanting to give you money i'd use to buy a drink after marching with a sousaphone in the 100 degree heat.
feel lucky that i gave you a dollar. i only did it because i was afraid you'd act like an immature POS (the action that got you to where you are- leeching off of college students for money) and smash up my car during the night.

down to santa monica where tricks are for kids...
howdy. i'm currently goofing off in my dorm, playing internet minigolf, listening to weezer, and being sluggish because i've got a long-arsed biology class at 12:30. this class will mark my first college pop quiz (although it's not really "popped" if i'm expecting it), and i'm moderately nervous. this is because of two reasons- 1) i want to make a good first impression and not suck and 2) my brain is kooked and i have to have something to worry about. generally, i think it's fair to accept #2 as the dominant reason for a lot of the things i get anxious about.
as i said in the entry two days ago, i'm enjoying college and have made the transfer pretty well, IMO. the first week was a major league bizitch...mainly because i was in band practice 6 hours a day and hardly had time to eat or sleep. but, they've scaled back, so i have my goof off time now, as exhibited by the fact that, as i said earlier, i'm playing internet minigolf, listening to weezer, and being sluggish...as well as churning out a blog entry.
i really should re-read those two chapters for bio. i think i'll do that now. adios.

17 days later....a quick overview of things.
1) i'm in athens, GA, now. which means i'm in college. rah.
2) i'm in the marching band. it's hard.
3) i like my dorm. pictures to come.
4) i'm having trouble connecting to the mesmerized FTP server, so if stuff looks funky for a while, my apologies.
5) i'll try to update better. i pwomise.

it's about 11 PM, i'm four teeth short of a full mouth, and the back of my mouth is killing me. that's right, kids, i got my wisdom teeth yanked out today. first time i've ever been put to sleep during an operation (dental or otherwise...in fact, other than teeth stuff, i've never actually knockonwood had surgery knockonwood). i was moderately bummed because they tell me that when you sneeze, your heart stops for a split second...and i wanted to get my yucks doing this while watching my heart monitor, but no such luck- i didn't sneeze. i did, however, get four angry teeth ripped from my unforunately small mouth in about an hour and fifteen minutes. so, it's swelling, pudding, soup, painkillers, and john steinbeck's in dubious battle for me for the next few days. after that, i go to atlantic beach, NC, with katie and my folks for my last vacation with the family before i go to college. speaking of which, in exactly one week, i'll be driving down to athens, GA, to start practicing with the marching band and then, ultimately, move into my dorm. college, along hopefully with a subsidation of my mouth pain, is around the corner.

well, hell, i've gone off and left ya'll for 9 days without really even noticing it. my apologies. for those of you who are on pins and needles at every single event in my life, first off, good for you- you're most certainly one of the more evolved groups in the western hemisphere. secondly, i was first at freshman orientation for the big badass university of georgia...and then took a trip down to south carolina to see my kooky relatives. the good times were in abundance.
oh, and i got a new computer. it's another gateway, but it's loads faster, loads cooler, and has additional mind-numbing things to do- headed by, oh boy oh boy, a digicam! naturally, i've already gone insane with the thing...two of my better pictures can be found here and here.
i also created my first semester schedule for UGA. i'm taking intro to continental african history, american literature post-civil war, 3rd-4th year spanish, freshman biology, a seminar pertaining to beowulf, and i'm marching in the band.
so that's me. look forward to a mass of random digicam nonsense in the weeks to come!

dear isaac newton:
first off, i'd like to drop the formality and tell you that you can, truly, kiss my ass. thank you very much for ruining my mind for the past two years with your irrelevant and inane calculus invention. think- you could have used your supposed smarts to come up with cures for diseases or ideas concerning the plight of the french farmer of the time...but no, you decided to be a petty little prick and spend your time fiddling with numbers and expect david clark, c. 2000-2001, to care a hill of beans' worth about the laws concerning a moving object. here's a question for you- if my fist starts at x=4 and travels along an exponential curve towards your face, how fast will my fist be moving as it breaks your nose?
so, again, isaac, thanks for wasting two years' worth of my time. excuse me while i go and do things that actually mean something in modern society...and enjoy having apples fall on you in hell.
regards,
david n. clark

there i was, staring at the moderately interesting names for screen doors (colonial, stanford, patriot, victorian, seabreeze) in lowe's hardware, when something went off in the back of my head like a siren. my folks were browsing for screen doors to put on the front and deck doors of our house, when some sort of truth covered my brain.
this was not my project. nor was it, perhaps, our house anymore. that's right, today is july 13th. on august 13th, i will be making my residence in athens, georgia, as a student at the university of georgia. these screen doors lined up in front of me- seemingly, they would never be mine. and slowly, my room itself is losing that distinction as all my posters and personal effects are being torn from the walls and vanishing from the shelves. the area of my house that bears the indentations of my body- my bed, my sofa, my recliner- it will soon be inhabited, mostly, by nothing.
surprisingly, i am not scared by this. and as loud of a thought it was, i wasn't shocked by it in lowe's, either. i simply continued staring at the screen doors in front of me- a landscape of wood, glass, and brass that would never allow me to call it home.

back in the day when my site was on tripod (yippee!), i was part of this thing called musicspace. it was a collection of sites that had something to do with music...all you had to do was give them your URL, and put up their little banner ad. it was supposed to increase hits to your site- and it did. nowadays i don't really care that much about site traffic, but back then, for some reason, it was a big deal for me.
anyways, i keep getting emails from musicspace telling me my weekly hit stats. this is interesting for a few reasons: 1) my tripod site is no more and 2) they only started emailing me a few months ago. this is the fourth URL i've had since moving from tripod; why have they just started emailing me these irrelevant stats? odd, really. not really surprising is the fact that they're telling me that 0 people have visited my site in the past week for an average of 0.00 per day. i keep sending them emails to get me off of their mailing list, but my pleas go ignored.
it doesn't really matter, though...in a few months, the email address they're sending their stats to will be no more as i move out of AOL and onto UGA's ethernet. speaking of which, i have a new email account to go along with my hotmail account. the new one is dnclark@uga.edu. exciting, i know.
kate comes home from philly tomorrow. i miss her a ton, but it seems like this week without her has gone by quickly. i consider myself lucky in this regard.

food for thought- a recent poll by the dominion institute and the research firm ipsos-reid found that americans knew their history far better than canadians knew theirs. 63 percent of americans passed the quiz, compared with 39 percent of canadians. 90 percent of americans polled knew who the first president was, while only 54 percent of canadians polled knew who their first prime minister was.
quite interesting, considering how much pro-canada-americans-are-ignorant-in-worldly-affairs patter pseudoleftist meatheads like to spew out.
oh, BTW, the montreal expos suck. but that goes without saying...

i cleaned out my room today...granted, i leave for college in a month, but i figured i'd do it now. took me three sweat-inducing hours, but it was almost fun nonetheless. it was amazing some of the crap i had stored in there- finding the love letters from 7th grade was probably the most interesting moment of the shindig. i apparently suffered from garage sale syndrome (in other words, i had a hard time getting rid of some of the junk), but i did manage to fill a trash bag. next project will be to re-paint the room and fill in the tack holes. i had loads of posters and 104 alcohol ads (that's right, 104) sprayed across the walls, so there are little tack holes remaining everywhere.
i'm currently reading thomas nagel's what does it all mean?. it's essentially an introduction to philosophy, and although it's a bit nickel-and-dime at times, it's quite thought-provoking. the book is almost rather surreal as well- nagel uses straight-forward tone and word choice, but the book discusses complex ideas, so the book serves as a moderate contradiction in itself, i suppose.
a few chums of mine came over to watch the major league baseball all-star game. it was basically a repeat of every all-star game lately- some pop star dreg who couldn't carry a tune on the national anthem, pathetic pseudoemotional slop from the announcers, hype overload for undeserving players (see: jeter, derek), and, of course, "great stories of baseball." yawn. it's fun to see an assembly of great players, but the context of this assembly has really gone sour over the years and especially since FOX (blech.) starting carrying baseball games.
it's freakin' hot here. hopefully i'll be able to get comfortable in my bed tonight.

i submit to you all for your viewing pleasure the domain infective.net. a little history lesson- when i was about to open up a longer writings site, i was pondering being hosted there last november, but decided to go with mesmerized because i had experience here and i thought i would get along with the hostees here better than i would there (the hostee "k," for example, really rubs me the wrong way. you can't really tell that because she's got a hiatus page up right now, so take my word for it.).
also know that i *would* suggest hopping on over to lhabia.com, but they've been on hiatus for what seems like ages and don't have any of their hostees listed. like infective, a hostee there ("trashed") royally twerps me off, but i cannot ignore the excellent design and creativity of those people over there.
while i'm on a linking binge, check out thispagecannotbedisplayed if you've got a quick minute. the laughs are well worth the time spent clicking on the link.
sorry for not really updating much this summer- i haven't really been doing anything truly day-taxing, so i don't have much of an excuse other than laziness. let me assure you, though, that i'll try to keep this site up while in college...they tell me there is down time here and there, so i'm sure i could spare a few moments and put in a blog entry or two.
