A group of organizations held a protest against the felicitation of Sadhvi Ritambra at the Ganesh Temple in Queens last week. According to the organizations protesting against Sadhvi, the Ganesh Temple is a community institution and should be a place for peace and prayer, not for fundamentalist religious leaders like her, who represent the Sangh Parivar.
Some of the Non-Resident Indian (NRI) groups involved in the protest were the International South Asia Forum (INSAF), the SAMAR media collective, the Forum of Indian Leftists (FOIL), and NRIs for a Secular and Harmonious India. These groups and others had engaged in several previous actions against the communal violence in Gujarat in the past.
