View from my new New York
I was standing on the corner of Waverly and Mercer when the 2nd Tower went down. This picture is from only a few blocks south. I remember shouting "No! No! No!" and crying and holding onto my friend for dear life. I remember the glistening flickers of light off the pieces of the steel exoskeleton. There was no sound of the collapse where I was; I seem to recall that those pieces of metal glittered and fluttered like feathers. I was horrified by them; their prettiness was awful in the face of such obvious, abundant death. We all watched all those people be crushed. I have never forgotten it.
